Black Site

Pleasant Ridge is a picturesque little enclave nestled in the Rocky Mountains and home to the historic Fort Amsel Army base. The population - all 10,000 of them - are warm and friendly people, always polite and willing to lend a hand. It's the kind of town where people settle down to raise a family. Pleasant Ridge is the quintessential small American hamlet that citizens bemoan the loss of and long to rediscover.

A safe place where an average family can live a quiet life and chase down the American Dream.

New residents Darci, Dennis and Felix Hale find their new town very interesting. A place far different from their previous home in Boston. Gone were the claustrophobic surroundings, harsh climate, and rude people and in their place was a living, breathing Norman Rockwell painting. Something almost too good to be true. Yet, despite their initial suspicions, they discover that Pleasant Ridge really is that kind of place. A dreamy community filled with amazing people.

Or maybe that's just what they want you to think.

The truth is that Pleasant Ridge is a “Black Site” (similar to Area 51) and home to various “black projects” (secret government tests) dealing with mass mind control, propaganda, large scale crowd suppression and the cryptic sounding “weaponization of nontraditional arms” - which includes various forays into paranormal research (which cannot totally be explained by science) and things that wouldn't be out of place in an H.G. Wells' novel. Tapping into the area's “natural paranormal reservoir”, Fort Amsel has been the home of this kind of research since the early 1950s, developing technology that has been used in every American conflict since Korea. But this stuff can't just be thrown into battle without proper testing and that's where the town of Pleasant Ridge comes in...

It's literally a public testing ground for this nation's mad scientists.

Since the opening of the base, most of Pleasant Ridge's population have been unwitting subjects in scores of US Army tests. Used as guinea pigs by their own government to evaluate theories, toxins and weapons the public has endured numerous side effects from these various black projects. With some cases the side effects are as mild as “flu like symptoms” or night terrors. But in some of the more extreme cases, the side effects have lead to mental collapse, suicide and the occasional murder. Despite some of the more tragic results, the testing continues and shows no signs of stopping, only evolving. Right now, the “Project Quarrel” team is creating something so unreal, so strange, that even long time Department of Defense and CIA wonks are left amazed...

They're weaponizing ghosts.

While a fair number of Pleasant Ridge's townspeople either work at Fort Amsel or for a business that works with Fort Amsel only a small handful actually know what's really going on – and they have no intention of letting anyone else in on the project. Like all secret government projects, everything is very compartmentalized so no one knows exactly what their research findings lead to. All they know that every once and while they succeed and are handsomely rewarded with bonuses. Those riches and the very real and persistent threat of swift and harsh “reactions” from the US Army keeps everyone in line. Nobody wants to risk their life by looking deeper into the projects.

No one, that is, until the Hales move to town.

Black Site tells the story of Darci, Dennis and Felix Hale and how they all find themselves involved in Fort Amsel's “Project Quarrel”, be it at very different levels: Darci unknowingly works on the project, Dennis stumbles into past results and begins to uncover what's currently going on and Felix becomes the latest in a very long line of unfortunate test subjects. As the season moves on, the family will be challenged not only by supernatural, governmental and military forces but by their own internal struggles with what is happening to them in Pleasant Ridge.

Will they expose the truth of Project Quarrel to the public? Can they stop the illegal testing on ordinary Americans? Is it possible to escape with your credibility intact? Is it possible to escape AT ALL? Will the Hales rage against the machine or become another cog in it?
