Every four years, the citizens of Elksburg, Pennsylvania make their way to the polls and vote for the Robert “Hickory” Wilson – the old guard mayor who has ruled over the town for nearly thirty years. This upcoming election should be no different and old Hickory looks to be a lock once again. Until he announces he's not running.
While everyone assumes Mayor Wilson's right hand man Orville Weeks is going to take the thrown, a host of new candidates also consider running. Former Ms. Skelp pageant winner and new city council member Leigh Roublard (R), long time city council member Martin Page (D), local restauranteur and the perfect citizen Rupert Norgay (I) and steel worker Robert Gary Craig (I) all are persuaded to make a run of the most powerful office in the town. Each have their own reasons – some more noble than others – but all feel they can make a difference in the small town.
But something doesn't smell right to local newspaperman David Paine. The mayor's signature piece of legislation – the construction of the “ElkDome” convention center – is nearly finished. And why would he leave now?
